4 – Know your audience
Watch the traffic to your website articles. By monitoring traffic, bounce rate and entry and exit patterns you can begin to learn what your visitors like most about your website. “Give em what they want and they will come!”

5 – Find websites that support/promote your market sector
There is always a major website that promotes your business sector, there are usually several. Find ways to participate on these websites and you are sure to get your share of relevant, targeted visitors to your own website.

6 – Update your website content frequently
Creating content that your visitors enjoy is the single most effective way to ensure continued success in website marketing. Writing articles that engage your readers and help them find the information that they are looking for, will create loyal, repeat visitors.

7 – Add your website to local website directories
Each of the major search engines has their own version of local listings. Add your business to these traffic driving sources and watch your visitor counts soar.

TIP: Have your business summary and keywords in hand before you sign up.

8 – Write articles about your business that add value to the industry that you serve
Content, content, content. Write unique and substantial articles that discuss new trends, little known facts, how-to, etc. related to your market. Become an expert in your field and networking becomes a much easier task.

9 – Avoid the “DON’TS” at all cost
Like anything else, there are plenty of myths surrounding web marketing, but here are some definite
DO NOT’s :
1. Don’t pay for 1,000 backlinks to your site etc. This is one of the quickest ways to get search engines to ignore or even penalize your website.
2. Don’t try to outsmart Google etc. Adding lots of keywords to your webpage or article might seem like a good idea, but it will ultimately back-fire. The best thing you can do when writing website content is to write naturally on the topic.
3. Don’t believe that the only way you can be found in search engines is through some term that no one will ever search.
When you do keyword research find terms related to your niche that have a medium or low competition rating but also have high traffic.
Too many “SEO Experts” are driving traffic to silly keywords that you can rank #1 for and get absolutely no visitors from.
Example: “wally’s widgets in flagler florida” . It’s way too specific and if you were looking for widgets you would most likely search for: “widgets” or “Florida widgets” or “widgets Florida”.
**These are just some of many possible “DO NOTs”, but this should keep you out of trouble.

10 – Be Social/Network
Like it or not, a huge percentage of your potential clients are using Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. Find ways to use them effectively and the payoff will be huge. The idea here is to network, not sell. Think of this as an expansion of your physical networking activities.
